This week I was fortunate to be able to spend 5 days at Hilton Head with SS while he was attending a SC Petroleum Marketers conference. He is on the Board - Vice President this year, President starting in January 2011 - so he had a lot of meetings to attend in the mornings, while I got to take it easy reading and spending time on the beach walking or laying by the pool. It was HEAVEN!
From Sunday to 9:30 Monday night there was a silent auction set up, with items donated by SCPMA members. There were all kinds of things, but from the start SS was interested in a an item that had a print of Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer with a patch from the Masters and a little plaque that read "Ben Hogan - Arnold Palmer Waiting to tee off on the 2nd hole - 1966 Masters."
I told him it was too bad that it wasn't 1967 or 1968 or Daddy and I might have been in the background. I tried to discourage him from trying to get it, saying that we were downsizing and we don't need any more "things." But he really wanted to get it. So he hung around it until 9:30 and then put his bid down, and won it. We couldn't pick it up until Tuesday. In the meantime I pulled up a picture of our Pamela's Girls blog and showed him the picture of Daddy and me before leaving home in 1968, and that he was wearing a hat like some of the men in the background of the picture. After getting the picture Tuesday and taking it back to the room, SS said "Carol, what do you think about this?" Knowing that Daddy always followed in Arnie's Army, there is a man in the background, his face partially covered by binoculars, looking amazingly like Daddy - wearing the same-looking outfit as the 1968 picture!
What do you Pamela's Girls think?
With love and wonder, CiCi
